I am having the same problem with the 551 as the first post. I have changed everything. Rethreaded millions of time and it still continually jams.

Having the worst time getting this machine to sew without the bobbin thread messing all up! Have rethreaded it a million times. Had an old singer and I have gotten it back out! Can not wait for the salesman to come back in town.

I just replaced a zipper in a leather Jacket. layers of leather, 2 layers of interfacing & zipper material. I had to use a size 18 needle & put vasoline on the leather to get it to feed, but it went in easy. No broken thread, bunching up or puckering. I worried about the bobbin thread after reading the reviews, but have not had that problem yet. I have sewed on thin cotton, & put zippers in blue jeans also. so far it works great on everything.

I'm having the same problem with my thread breaking while in the middle of sewing something. I'm not sure if I'm not threading it properly or the bobbin. I'm taking a sewing course & it really slows me down to have to keep re-threading. It also jams up & keeps going over & over the same stitch so makes a huge mess on the back side. I have a silk blouse I need to sew together & I'm a little afraid to actually sew on it. I'm afraid it will ruin my beautiful silk material. I'm sorry. I was very excited to get this machine, but now I'm not so sure. Then I go to the fabric store & find machine's with way more features that cost way less than I had to pay for this basic machine. I'm not sure I will buy another singer. Really am sorry that my first experience with a Singer machine has been very dissappointing.
