This is my first ever machine, yes I probably bought a machine too much for a beginner, but I am lovin' it! I haven't had any issues of using the machine. The instruction booklet is very easy to read, and I've been trying to experiment with the different presser feet! I got tons cause I purchased the machine on HSN and it came with the Value Pack of accessories. For me this is a great machine, its combining my love of being creative and with a touch of modern technology with all the different functions this machine has to offer! Great buy for me! A+ Singer!

disappointed

Overall Rating: 2 stars

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality

The bobbin cover is hard to get back under clip. The thread cutter is great, but then needle unthreads when you start to sew again. The needle threader does not line up, takes many tries to get needle threaded. The autolock sometimes pulls out easily.

Fits the Bill!!

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

For over 30 years, I have a basic, heavy, standard-type machine. It still works fine. However, when I saw the Singer H74 machine on HSN, the price, coupled with all the extra value pieces made it something I couldn't pass up. Am I disappointed? Not at all. The hardest thing I encountered so far was just making sure the top thread was threaded correctly. The instruction book offers easy-to-follow directions and explanations of common problems. The feature of automatic thread-cutting, auto reverse, and the computerized "fancy" stiches, will enable me to do much more than basic sewing. No - it is not the same as a $1,000+ machine, if that's what you're truly looking for. This is a wonderful upgrade for me and I haven't regretted it at all. Cons - wish it was a little bit easier to thread the top, but all in all, I'm a satisfied customer.

Good machine for the money

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great Features

Cons: Poor Instruction Book, No Video Instruction

After I learned to use the machine, I find I really love it. I was overwhelmed by it at first. I tried and tried to figure the button hole maker and the different stitches but just kept getting frustrated every time. I didn't realize on the buttonholer that a piece came down which enabled the thing to work. I kept getting an error on the screen. I finally went to Joann's and paid 25.00 to get someone to "teach" me how to use the machine. My instructor took me step by step through the book and it was a breeze with his help. The video that came with the machine was useless to me. I have been sewing for years and am pretty tech savey but this machine baffled me at first. The self threader is great, but you have to align the thread in the right position. Once you get the hang of it, it works everytime. Like any machine, you have to know how to use it.

OK, Here are the pros and cons.

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Great Features

Loves the many functions it has. All the feet and ease. What needs to be fixed is the light. Really? It's like hardly there. :(. The reverse button doesn't always work. The thread cutter and needle threader are tempermental. You have to be willing to put up with some of its behavior for the extras it does have. I just wanted to get back into sewing after years of a break. Wish I could have bought a powerhouse machine with all the bells and whistles. Oh well the economy doesn't support that today. Neither does my purse.

Just got my new machine today and feel like I've entered the space age. This machine has everything I need and more. A real giant step up from my old zig-zag with none of the features this one has.. Expecially appreciate the auto thread cutter and the threader. Looking forward to creating some cute stuff for Christmas presents. Great price!

H-74

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Nice machine..efficient..fairly easy to learn attachments and different stitches...have used it over 100 hours. Recently needed timing of bobbin adjusted but under warranty so appreciated that aspect. Would recommend a better manual for the bobbin area. More pictorial detail would be beneficial when learning to clean the bobbin area. First time was rather difficult to understand the process. Overall very pleased with machine.

Great Machine

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, All The Great Stitches

I purchased this machine for my sister and she Loves it. She had my L-500 for a time and I wanted to get her something similar that she could use. She has made so many things for her girls and they are now interested in sewing. It is different from mine but still easy for her to use. She wants me to come over all the time so she can show me how to do things on it. I am glad she is enjoying it.
